want to build a fireplace more or less, that only looks like one but no chimeny and can have a ventless natural gas log set to heat a small room. i really dont like the firebox inserts although thatt would be the easier and logical way to go but i dont like the appearance it gives

YOU DON’T NEED TO BUILD A FIREBOX,THEY MAKE UNITS THAT HANG ON THE WALL, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS RUN A 3/8″ GAS LINE TO IT.THEY ALSO MAKE MANTLES TO GO AROUND THE UNIT.TYPE IN VENT FREE FIREPLACES ONLINE YOU WILL FIND ALL YOU NEED…

Hello,
I have looked at Lowes, Homedepot and all over the internet for a simple outdoor brick fireplace.

I have read many posts on here and people are directed to sites that don’t have actual downloadable plans.

I am just looking for a very simple plan that I can download and build.

thanks in advance.
I don't think I asked my question clearly. I have a large amount of bricks left over from building my house. I am looking for a simple brink outdoor fireplace plan I can purchase and download.

I am not even sure if house bricks are sutiable for this type of project, but i can either throw the bricks away or try and make something out of them..

Anyone know where I can get a brick outdoor fireplace plan?

thanks

The one I have is a rather large oak one with brass trimming and has a black marble top mantle built on it in one unit. I want some nice classy(but not too expensive decorations to go on the mantle. So, I need some ideas as I am not certain what the "norm" is for how most people decorate their mantles.

Why not add a couple of nice candle sticks, a finial, ie., pineapple type, a picture or some books. Two books standing up and one lying down.
Do this in odd numbers. If you decide on two candle sticks that would count as one item. A picture would count as one item and the books would count as one item, that would be a three piece grouping.

I want to make my pokey fireplace larger. How can I do this? As a girl with not much experience of diy need some easy to follow expert advice, even if that is to get an expert in! thanks.

You would be better off leaving this little project to a mason experienced in building fireplaces. Without looking at what you currently have & what you want, it's a bit hard to give you credible advice.

Good luck…

My furniture is a neutral kaki color. I also have a silver framed mirror going above the fireplace. Other than that, I am working with a blank canvas. I want the livingroom space to be comfy, warm, and charming without being too "country." I guess what I need help on is picking a color scheme. What colors should I use for a livingroom with hardwood floors, white walls, and a red brick fireplace?

Sounds like you already have your color scheme, you have khaki, silver and dark red, or burgundy. Very pretty and warm. Think about some burgundy pillows and maybe a burgundy rug under your coffee table to show off your hard wood floors. If you don't have a coffee table, think about a glass top so you can see the rug underneath. Bring in some more of your silver color with polished nickel lamps and large candlesticks for your coffee table along with some large burgundy candles.Hang some prints on the wall to add more color on the white walls. Think about some simple curtains with a nice silver decorative rod to hang them. Make sure you have a touch of greenery, even if it's a silk plant, plants always add a warm touch to a home. Add some pictures of family and friends in silver frames. Sounds like you have the beginnings of a wonderful place to call home. Have fun with this, I know you can do it. Hope this helps.

do you mean Smoke? your fire place should not have any problems, if it dose your fire place was built wrong, I'm a mason contractor and I build fire places for new homes. As for spoke I do not know what that is?
if may be dirty and need to be cleaned, or a birds nest is restricting the flow of the smoke. That is called the draw. It also must be 2 foot taller than anything within 10 feet all the way around the chimney stack. To test that just in stall or place a 2 foot clay liner on-top of the stack, if that works just add the brick or stone on top to cover the clay liner.

I tried building a fire tonight, with a sticky firestarter block and two blocks of wood. Only thing is, I think the wood is oak and is not catching fire very easily…
What type of wood is best for building fires in my fireplace?

Dead wood, that is on the ground.
